L4 – Advanced Race Craft

This course covers the elements of head to head racing.   Armed with a mastery of car control, we now graduate to the art of head to head racing.  This is the chess game of winning races and keeping the car and driver in one piece throughout the race.   The modules of the course are once again strategically progressive throughout the day to make sure nothing is missed.   

• Track walk and Identifying Passing Zones
• Close Proximity Driving (side by side, front and behind)
• Qualifying Strategies (it’s just the clock)
• Pre-Grid procedures (5-Minute, 3-Minute, 1-Minute Warning)
• Warm up lap procedures and getting in position for start
• From the Pole Procedures (pick side and pace)
• Rolling Start procedures
• Practice Race Starts, Turn 1 and Aborted Race Starts
• Setting up the pass
• Drafting and Slip Streams
• Taking the race line
• Passing under braking
• Looking for weaknesses in other cars and using other cars to your advantage
• Working with another car to increase position
• Preserving your race car

All cars used in this course are the Spec Miata. You may use your own certified Spec Miata  or one of Driveway Austin’s race prepared (Spec Miata) school cars for an additional fee.
